With unusually large dimensions for a one-litre car, the four-door Wartburg from East Germany has a three-cylinder two-stroke engine of notable smoothness. The Wartburg Knight is roomy and has a luggage boot large enough to cope with a family's holiday baggage. Other technical features include front wheel drive, and a lockable free-wheel which, when in 'free', assists with the maintenance of minimum fuel consumption. There is an even roomier Estate on the same chassis with a 5ft, 10½in. floor when the rear seat is folded down. There is a lift-up tailgate.
