As the standard of living levels up, the minicars under 360c.c. are loosing popularity in spite of their favourable taxation. The Subaru 360 of 1964 at Tokyo Motor Show, overloaded with ornaments, the luxury of upholstered doors with wind-up windows, and even an electro-magnetic clutch, is a far cry from the original lightweight. Those manufacturers of minicars are now attempting to attack a larger 700-1,000c.c. market now monopolised by Toyota's Publica.
