YOU
get more than the world's first genuine postwar automobile, when
you become the proud owner of a new 1947 Studebaker.
You get a
thrilling, new car that's a melody in metal - with extra low,
extra wide, new bodies styled by Raymond Loewy, Internationally
famous designer.
You get a car that's newly engineered
throughout, from its wheels on up – a car with almost
incredible new handling ease – with cradled riding comfort
that surpasses anything you've experienced even in much more
costly cars.
Studebaker was able to introduce these brand new
1947 cars months early. largely because of the teamwork and
competence of the finest group of employees in the motor car
industry.
It goes without saying that these 1947 Studebakers
excel in quality They are manufactured to war-production standards
of accuracy by responsible, able craftsmen, many of whom are
members of Studebaker father-and-son teams.
Studebaker's
exceptional operating economy adds its practical appeal to the
allure of these distinctive new postwar Champions and
Commanders.
All the customary body styles are available –
and each excels in roominess as well as in smart appointments.
The
1947 Studebaker Champion presents an entirely new treatment of
five-passenger Coupés. Designed by Raymond Loewy, Internationally
known designer, the rear windows and windshield of this model form
an almost unbroken expanse of glass, and provides virtually 360
degrees of horizontal visibility.
Its power plant uses an
L-head, six-cylinder engine developing 80 horsepower at 4000
r.p.m., and has been moved nine inches further forward over the
front suspension. A box-section frame, with kick-ups at both front
and rear end makes possible a flat mid-section, and is extremely
rigid in a longitudinal direction. Planar suspension, pioneered by
Studebaker has been refined. Softer springs with ends floating on
rubber cushions, allow the weight of the body and engine to
receive full benefit of spring flexibility. A completely new
braking system is employed which eliminates brake shoe adjustment,
and assures a quick, firm stop throughout the life of the
brakelining. Responsible for this is a small mechanism which moves
the broke shoe outward in steps of .005 of an inch, providing a
far finer adjustment than can be effected manually.
The body
design, wind-tunnel tested at the University of Michigan
Aeronautical Laboratory, features curved windows, rounded metal
surfaces and smaller frontal area, reducing wind resistance at
cruising speeds on the road. (Road
