Vanguard Six - new model

Great Britain

A new lightweight six-cylinder engine was introduced in a more luxurious version of the Standard Vanguard. Unlike the fourcylinder, it has no cylinder liners, and by use of siamesed bores, cast in pairs, length has been restricted to only 11/2 in. more than that of the four. More surprising, although it is of conventional cast iron construction, it weighs 57 lb. less. It gives 85 b.h.p. (S.A.E.) from 1,998 c.c, and has two Solex carburetters of a very compact new design.
London report
Ten Companion, the only survivor of the Eight/Ten/Pennant family is powered by a four-cylinder, 948-cc, ohv engine which develop 37 bhp at 4000 rpm and feature a four-speed gearbox. Overdrive and Standrive two-pedal transmission are optionally available.
Luxury Vanguard Six from 1960 had 1998cc straight six with 80 bhp and 92 mph top speed. Still with 3 speed column shift but four speed floor shift and overdrive, and disc brakes optional.
