ROLLS ROYCE CORNICHE
Saloon: £12,283 (incl. P.T.)
Conv.: £12,839 (incl. P.T.)
A name first used by Bentley 33 years ago was revived in the Spring with the new two-door Corniche saloon and convertible - two connoisseurs' cars intended for the owner-driver. They have the 6750 c.c. V8 aluminium engine which will whisper these heavy cars along at 120 miles an hour, and outstandingly smooth automatic gearboxes. The brakes have a triple safety system, and nearly everything that moves is electronically operated, from seats to radio aerial. Each car takes four months to build and there is a Bentley version too.
ROLLS ROYCE PHANTOM VI
£13,939 (incl. P.T.)
The Silver Shadow is, I suppose, the 'small' Rolls and this is the 'big' one, nearly 20 feet long, and a magnificent town carriage which simply demands to be chauffeur-driven. The engine and running gear are the same as in the Shadow, with a 6750 c.c. V8 light alloy engine and automatic transmission, but they have to work a little harder for the Phantom VI weighs over 2½ tons! Interior appointments are, quite naturally, of the very highest order with enough room in the rear compartment to hold a state banquet. Majestic coachwork by Park Ward.
