STAR of the Stuttgart stable is the new 911 S which has a big boost in power, improved parking brake and new light alloy wheels in contemporary style. Its flat-six 2-litre engine has compression raised to 9.8 to 1 and two triple-choke Weber carburetters to produce 160 h.p., probably the highest output per litre from all air-cooled production engines except for the competition Carrera. Gearbox has five speeds. Six-cyl.; o.h.c.; air-cooled; 1,991 c.c.; 160 b.h.p.
LIKE the sixes, the four-cylinder Porsches 912 are now available with Coupé bodywork or the new Targa convertible with built-in roll bar and fixed rear window. Latest improvements include new engine mountings, revised transmission ratios, more powerful horn, better door locks and different carpets. Finish shows the usual Porsche eye for detail and the cranked steering column is a good safety feature. Four-cyl.; o.h.v.; air-cooled; 1,582 c.c.; 90 b.h.p.
