The Peugeot badge appearing on the front grille of the 304 and 504 has changed. Now it is gold coloured solid in place of the silver/grey coloured outline badge.
Optional, more powerful 304 S versions sporting a twin choke/twin barrel carburettor (XL3S). The saloon received a simplified rear light cluster design in September and the roof line of the saloon was discretely squared off to give greater headroom for rear passengers. The window frames on the rear doors were modified correspondingly adding about and inch and a half to their rearmost upper edge and making them unique to the 304, while the car's front doors remaining interchangeable with those on the 204.
The brand new Peugeot 104 is a compact four-door fastback. Although it has a short, sloping rear end suggesting a hatchback, there is a separate boot, as on a conventional saloon. Power is provided from a 954 cc Douvrin engine called the PSA X engine, an all-aluminium alloy, chain driven overhead cam, with gearbox in the sump.

Proving that their close collaboration with Renault does not exclude direct competition in any particular sector of the market. Peugeot launch a new four-door small family car which appeals to very much the same clientele as the three-door Renault 5. The four-cylinder engine is transverse, driving the front wheels, as on 204 and 304 and suspension is all-independent.
PEUGEOT 304 ESTATE £1,367
Developed originally from the 204, the 304 has similar bodywork, but a different front end and the transverse light alloy overhead camshaft engine is 1,288 c.c. instead of 1,130. Suspension is all-independent and the disc/drum brakes have servo assistance. The saloons, Coupé and convertible now appear in 304'S form with twin-choke carburetter delivering 80 b.h.p. gross. Recent improvements concern instruments and rear lamps.
PEUGEOT 504 TI £2,100
The most powerful of the 504 series, with Kugelfischer fuel injection, also has halogen headlamps. It is equipped with a tachometer, heated rear window and sun roof. Pininfarina did the body styling but in conformity with the conservative Peugeot tradition. Rear suspension is by semi-trailing wishbones and coil springs. In France there's a diesel 504 too - producing 65 b.h.p.
