PEUGEOT 304 ESTATE
£1,278 (incl. P.T.)
A five-door estate car version of this front-wheel-drive French car is new this year. It can carry up to five people or, with the rear seat folded down, give 53 cubic feet of luggage space. Like the saloon, the 304 estate has an overhead camshaft engine of 1288 c.c.s, mounted transversely at the front. Claimed top speed is 93 m.p.h. Suspension is independent all round by coil springs and standard equipment in this well-finished car includes fully reclining front seats, heated rear window, alternator, clock and thermostatically controlled engine fan. Extremely comfortable workhorse.
PEUGEOT 504 SALOON
From £1,624 (incl. P.T.)
Estates: From £1,733 (incl. P.T.)
Pininfarina styled this quiet, smooth and refined French car which will spearhead Peugeot's bid for a massive increase in sales to British motorists. For 1972 it carries on virtually unchanged, except for the fitting of seat belts and a heated rear window as standard. It is a good car for long-distance travel, with a 1971 c.c. engine giving adequate acceleration and gearing that gives effortless cruising in the 90s. Peugeot have a reputation for building their cars well and this one is no exception. There are two estate versions, one with seating for five and the other is a seven-seater.
