MASERATI BORA £9,825
Take your seat, press a switch and the pedals move forward or back into the ideal position for perfect control on this midengined speedster, most exotic model in the Maserati range. With four overhead camshafts and four twin-choke Webers, the light alloy V8 sends it snarling along at speeds up to 175 m.p.h. This is the only Maserati with independent rear suspension.

MASERATI GHIBLI £9,172
Acclaimed as a classic, Guigiaro's design for the Ghibli coupe made it the best selling Maserati model, though it is only a two-seater and the luggage is on display to casual intruders through the big rear window. There is a choice of two engines, 4.7 and 4.9-litres, both light alloy V8s with four overhead camshafts. Suspension design is surprisingly conservative.
