|Morris IM3||– new model|
The third Innocenti to enter production is the IM3 released in the spring of 1963. Using a front-wheel drive transverse engine layout it is basically a mildly modified BMC model. The grille, headlights, instruments, brakes and trim are all improved over the British product, whilst the four cylinder 1098cc twin SU engine remain the same.
Production of A40 series 2 Berlina ended in December last year and last estate Combinata left the assembly line in January this year. 6.828 and 9.979 were made respectively.
Ghia bodied Spyder is based on Austin Healey Sprite with 1098cc engine.
Enjoying a real first-show success is the Innocenti Morris IM3, which is the familiar Morris 1100 with Hydrolastic suspension assembled in Italy with local modifications. These include deeper headlamp glasses, a much improved steering-wheel angle and stylish cloth-trimmed seats which are exceptionally comfortable. There is even a centre folding armrest for those in the back. Selling for rather less than the Lancia Fulvia, it seems to have a sure future. The Austin A40 and modified AustinHealey Sprite are now well-established Innocenti-built products.
