The 1974 version of Ford–America's big-selling sports model reflects transatlantic thinking on the world energy crisis. After making a name as large-engined cars, the new Mustangs are not only 19 inches shorter than the models they replace, but are powered by 2.3 or 2.8-litre engines-a dramatic change from the 4.1-5.8-litre motors of last year. The new two-door bodies have a European look, and were designed by Ghia of Turin, a Ford subsidiary. Available motors are a 2.3-litre four-cylinder with overhead camshaft, and a 2.8-litre V6-a development of the Capri engine.
