Nowy silnik konstrukcji Aurelio Lampretti zastosowano po raz pierwszy w kwietniu ubiegłego roku w wyścigowym modelu 275 F1. Jego pojemność rosła z 3,3 do 4,1 i ostatecznie 4,5 litra w 375 F1. Na salonie w Paryżu przedstawiono jego drogową wersję - 340 America. Ostateczna wersja tego luksusowego bolida pojawiła się w kwietniu tego roku w Turynie.
