Dong Feng Golden Dragon, touted to be the first Chinese-designed automobile, and presented to Chairman Mao Zedong on 21st of May 1958.
The first Phoenix came from Shanghai City Agricultural Machinery Manufacturing Company plant on 28th of September.
In November 1957 the FAW began the design of the Dongfeng sedan. The body and chassis refers to the French Simca Vedette. The engine is based on the Mercedes 190, with a 4-cylinder overhead valve design with a maximum power of 70 hp. The transmission is FAW's own 3-speed mechanical gearbox. The top speed is 128 km/h. The model designation is CA 71, where CA is the code of the manufacturer FAW, 7 is the code of Chinese sedan type, and 1 is the first model.

The Jǐnggāngshān produced by the Beijing Auto Works appeared on 20th of June. Its name commemorated a Revolutionary base in Jingxi province, where Mao Zedong and the Red Army retreated to in 1927. Technically the car is similar to the VW Beetle.

The central Chineese government rushed to use the domestic high-class sedan in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Democratic People's Reublic of China. The task of manufacturing a domestic high-class sedan was issued to FAW factory The design was done by the Jilin University of Technology, using a 1955 Chrysler as a template. In fact, the Chrysler car was completely disassembled, each part manually mapped and then manufactured. The hand-made car is almost the same as the Chrysler.
Wu De, the chairman of the Jilin province Party Committee, officially named the car "Red Flag". The prototype designation is CA72-1E. It was shown for the first time on 1st of August, followed by two open parade cars built in September.
A fan-shaped radiator grill is flanked by a check décor in a quincunx pattern. The lantern in the rear lights and the sunflower in the centre of the steering whee. The V8 engine, due to a lack of technical references, had a great deal of difficulty in achieving 200 HP before it was finalized. The car’s interior decoration is magnificent, with the seats covered in Hangzhou brocade, the dashboard and window surrounds varnished with Chibaosha, a very famous varnish in Fujian province, and hand-made carpeting with traditional Chinese shading.
