DATSUN SUNNY from £1,157
Conventionally laid out with front engine and rear drive, the Sunny is an alternative to the transverse-engined front-drive Cherry; an economical small car available as saloons with two or four doors, station wagon and sporty coupe. The latest version has increased crash protection, reinforced engine and transmission to cut noise levels and revised suspension with stiffer anti-roll bar. Two-star petrol will do.

DATSUN VIOLET £1,403
People who think all the Japanese look alike will find the long waistline sweeping low towards the rear identifies the Violet. It has a short-stroke overhead camshaft engine and is lavishly equipped with radio, head restraints, heated rear window, tinted glass, door mirror and hazard warning flashers. In size it fills the gap-between the little Sunny and the Bluebird. Like them it has a front engine, rear drive.

DATSUN BLUEBIRD from £1,595
Datsun's success owes a lot to this medium sized family model which is available as saloon, coupe or station wagon, well equipped with many of the items which are so often extras elsewhere. Engines can be 1.6 or 1.8 litres, both four-cylinder units with overhead camshafts. Centre console, reclining seats, cigarette lighter, clock, servo brakes, radial ply tyres and a radio are among the standard items.

DATSUN 260Z from £2,843
Twice winner of the East African Safari; the two-seater 240Z was claimed to be the world's best selling sports car. With larger engine, using a longer stroke, stronger transmission with revised ratios, wider tyres and stiffer springs, it becomes the 260Z. There is also a 2+2 coupe with longer wheelbase. A lift-up rear panel (with heated window glass) makes luggage loading easy.
