One month after Paris Show, on November 6th, Citroën launched the LNA, an advanced version of the LN powered by the new Visa 2-cylinder engine with full electronic ignition. Externally, the LNA differs only from the LN by its stainless steel wheel covers. The LN is discontinued. 137,000 copies were sold.

The 114 cc added to the smaller engine does not bring much power (only 1 hp DIN more) but they improve the torque and allow to significantly reduce fuel consumption: 8.4 litres per 100 km instead of 9.7 litres at 120 km/h, and 8.7 litres instead of 10.7 litres on urban routes. The Pallas has new wheel hubs and the GS X2 gained rear spoiler and extra front fog lights.
In the spring a limited edition of 1,800 GS "Basalte", distinguished by black bodywork decorated with horizontal vermilion bands; it is fitted with original wipers, fog lights, Pallas-type wheel trims, a radio, a sunroof, interior fittings in red and black and various other specific fittings.
For 1979 the GS X3 replaces the GS X2. It is driven by a motor 1.3 litres and differs from the GS X2 in small details: wheel covers in grey star on a black background, side protection strips.

All 1978 models have full size wheel covers and three-position wiper switch. A 5-speed gearbox is available with the 2400 cc carburettor engine. Electric sunroof optional on all variants except the Prestige. The latter has higher roof and is offered with electronic injection. Electric exterior mirror, ignition lock and new wheel covers are other additions to this top model.
CX 2500 D was presented in February. Powered by a 2.5-liter diesel with 75 hp DIN and more torque providing better acceleration.
For 1979 the CX hardly changes, except by some improvements in equipment, including a new central console with a different heating and ventilation controls. In addition, the CX 2500 Diesel with 5-speed option made its real debut at the 1978 Show; it had been announced a few weeks earlier. The 2000 Pallas option has been deleted and the Prestige is only available with electronic injection. 2.2-litre diesel is discontinued.
Citroën CX 2000 £4,966.
One of the world's best-streamlined cars, the Citroen CX (in Europe CX signifies drag factor) cheats the wind, and because of it, is fast and economical. The two-litre 2000 is the smallest-engined of the CX range which includes also 2400 (2.4-litre) models designated Super, Pallas, Prestige, Pallas Injection, and GTi. All 2400 saloons have five-speed gearboxes as standard, and both the GTi and the Pallas Injection are equipped with fuel-injection. In France there is also a CX 2000 five-door 'Break' (estate), but only the 2400 petrol and 2500 diesel versions are available in Britain.
Citroën CX 2500D £6,315.
Besides the CX 2000 and 2400 petrol model, the highly-streamlined French car is also available with Citroen's latest 2.5-litre diesel unit - an engine of miserly fuel consumption, as well as great longevity and liveliness. The manufacturers claim their oil-engined car to be the fastest diesel in production. It has a maximum speed of around 95 mph and will cruise the motorways all day at 90-if the gendarmes aren't about! The diesel-engined saloon is offered in four-speed manual form only. The interior is luxurious, and the all-independent suspension is self-levelling. Front-wheel-driven in the Citroen manner of course.
Citroën CX PRESTIGE £9,254.
Long-wheelbase version of Citroen's CX has super-luxury trim and equipment and is the type that is synonymous with states men, diplomats, business tycoons, and VIPs. With its longer wheelbase, rear legroom is greater than on standard CX models, but it has the 2400 four-cylinder injection engine and five-speed gearbox, although there is also a semi-automatic transmission model. A recent innovation for the CX is centralised door-locking, and some switchgear is now mounted on the interior roof panel, in easy reach of the driver. The shorter-wheelbase Pallas is also equipped with the new 'roof console', but not the centralised locking.

Announced at the end of June, the new Citroën Visa was submitted to journalists' tests in September in the north of Greece before officially arriving on the automobile market during the Paris Motor Show in October. A 4-door hatchback with opening tailgate, folding rear seat incorporates bumpers made of thermoplastic elastomer providing an effective protection against minor impacts. The Visa is available in three versions: Special and Club of 4 CV, Super of 5 CV. The first two has a new Citroën 2-cylinder flat engine, with electronic ignition, air-cooled, 652 cc (77 x 70 mm) developing 36 hp DIN with a double-barrel carburettor. The Super uses a 4 cylinder in-line transverse, water-cooled, 1124 cc (72 x 69 mm) unit, delivering 57 hp DIN with a single body carburettor. This engine comes from the Peugeot 104, as well as the suspension and other components.
Although based on the Peugeot, the silhouette is unmistakably Citroen with a single front wiper, a large inclined windshield and oblique rear wings partially covering the wheels. The unusual cockpit includes an "PRN" satellite which groups all the controls and indicators at driver's fingertips.

FAF

At the Dakar Fair, which took place from November 28 to December 10, Citroën revealed its new FAF (facile à fabriquer, facile à financer) vehicle (easy to manufacture, easy to finance) intended for developing countries. Designed from the general structure and mechanics of the 2 CV, this light machine has a body made of folded and welded sheet metal which is screwed onto the platform. The Citroën FAF with front-wheel drive exists in four versions: 5-door closed with rigid sheet metal roof, 3-door open with tarpaulin, 2-door pick-up with sheet metal cabin and open patrol vehicle. The FAF is also announced in a 4 x 4 version. Its size is comparable to that of the Méhari, this 720 kg machine measures 359 cm long, 156 cm wide and 159 cm high.

Rallye de Portugal
The three CX 2200 Diesel by Robert Neyret engaged in Rallye de Monte-Carlo.
