The support of Peugeot, who since April 1976 holds 90% of the capital of the Citroën, has resulted in a spectacular recovery. Peugeot's control is intervening effectively at the level of sales and management, but leaving the Citroën technicians all their individuality.
The LN is a quickly created hybrid of Peugeot 104 body and Citroën 2-cylinder engine, to give sales department and all the dealers urgently demanded a new low-end model.
A limited edition of 1,500 copies of the Dyane Cabane were manufactured.
The GS was given a gentle facelift - new rear lights, grille and dashboard.
The CX range was extended with the replacement of the CX2200 with the CX 2400 (autumn '76) and introduction of a fuel injected 2400 engine fitted to the CX Berline GTi (spring '77).
All 1977 Citroëns have double braking circuit and a brake fluid level control light combined with a test button.

For 1977 the CX is offered in ten versions. The 7-seater familial is a new addition introduced last year. Many improvements has been made: iodine headlights with H4 type filaments, opening angle of the front and rear doors increased to 65 °, pockets on the backs of front seats (on Super), card holder pocket on the back of the left sun visor, pockets added to the base of the door panels (except on Confort), exterior mirror in anodized aluminium. In addition, Citroën now offers an “Isother” option including a tinted glass, roller blinds on the rear shelf, thermal insulation of the roof and a side sunshade on each rear door.
In May the 2400 GTi saloon was added sporting 2,347 cc engine with electronic injection, developing 128 hp DIN at 4,800 rpm, greatly improving acceleration and making it possible to reach 189 km/h. In addition, this new sporty version has an 5-speed gearbox. Fitted with AV and AR 185 HR 14 XVS tires, this model is recognizable by “GTI” logo and is available with normal rims or optional light alloys.
All 1978 models will have full size wheel covers and optional sunroof. Many more variants become available. The Prestige received a higher roof, electric external mirror and new wheel covers.

In May 1977, a carburetted CX 2400 driven by J.-P. Luc and J.-P. Dupuis finished 6th in the general classification of the Acropolis Rally which brought together 170 competitors at the start: faced with powerfully armed official teams, it ranked first for privately entered cars.
From August 14 to September 29, 1977, the London-Sydney Rally took place over nearly 30,000 kilometres across three continents. Four CX 2400 carburettors were used by the Australian team Total-Citroën. Out of 69 cars at the start, the CXs ranked respectively 3rd, 4th, 7th and 10th, a nice overall result which enabled Citroën to win the Manufacturers' Cup.
But it was at the 9e Tour Automobile du Sénégal, in late October early November 1977, that the CX experienced its greatest victory. In this formidable 3000 kilometre race, five CX 2400s reached the first five places!
