Two new 2 CV models launched in February: 2 CV 4 with cubic capacity 435 cc and power output 26 bhp, and CV 6 with 602 cc and power output 33 bhp. 2 CV 4 replaces AZ and AZA (except for Holland and Germany).
The Dyane acquired side windows in the rear panels. The Dyane 6 power was increased up to 35 bhp.
The Méhari acquired a new grille and new lights. A two seater version was launched, classified in France as a commercial vehicle.
A five speed manual gearbox is offered for the DS.
First shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March Citroën SM is a result of the collaboration with the Italian Maserati. Citroen purchased Maserati in 1968 with the intention of using high-performance engine technology to produce a true Gran Turismo car, combining the sophisticated DS suspension with a Maserati V6. It went on sale in France in September.
On 24 August 1970, Citroën launched the GS, filling the gap between the small and cheap models and the luxurious DS.
In January Citroën launched the M-35 operation, delivering dozens of prototypes to voluntary customers in order to test the rotary engine in normal use.
On April 30, Citroën celebrated the birth of the millionth Ami assembled in Rennes-La Janais factory. This important production unit was inaugurated almost ten years ago, in July 1960, when President Ch. De Gaulle came and symbolically to set up the first press himself of the stamping workshop. The initial Ami-6 produced in this Breton factory left the assembly lines on October 23, 1961; eight months later - in June 1962 - the milestone of 300 cars per day was crossed, and since then the rate of manufacture has constantly progressed.

Although the 2 CV successor, the Dyane is on the market for two-and-a-half years, it only managed to equal sales of the "ugly duck". This year Citroen decided to revive the model and introduced two engines already known from the other 2-cylider models.
Two new 2 CV models were launched in February: 2 CV 4 with cubic capacity 435 cc and power output 26 bhp, and CV 6 with 602 cc and power output 33 bhp. 2 CV 4 replaces AZ and AZA (except for Holland and Germany). Indicators fitted in front wings; Revised tail light clusters incorporating indicators and stop lamps, front seat belts fitted as standard. AK 350 replaced by AKS 400 with a raised roof line and an extra 50 kg payload.
CV joints (optional until now), 12 volt electrical system, adjustable front seat, windscreen washer become standard. Separate seats as an option. Oblong indicators on the front wings were replaced with round ones in June. The rear lights came fro the Ami. Available in white, beige, red and blue.

The 1970 Méhari retains the 33 hp SAE (28.5 hp DIN) 602 cc engine from the Dyane 6 of the previous year; it is not entitled to the new twin 35hp mounted in the sedan from February 1970. Since the Salon in October 1969, the Méhari has benefited from a few small modifications, notably the reinforcement of the windshield base by three small added ribs. The dashboard now has ventilation nozzles at each end. The front indicators are round.

M-35

The cooperation agreement between Citroen and NSU was signed in 1964. Comobil and Comotor were working on prototypes for some time. The project now reached the stage of being released to the public. In January “Operation M-35” was launched with the aim to deliver 500 cars to selected customers for normal use. In return for exceptional warranty and maintenance conditions, they will report to Citroen any issues and feedbacks.
The main feature of the car is the innovatory Wankel engine. In principle, this motor has a triangular, rotating piston, performing all four classic strokes in a single revolution. The piston is attached directly to the shaft, eliminating the need for heavy crankshaft and connecting rods. It doesn't even need valves! Light, compact, smooth running, this engine seem to be the future of motor industry.
On top of this unusual power unit, the M-35 has fully independent, hydropneumatic suspension, used for the first time in a car of this size.
212 were built this year.

For 1970 all models has more powerful engines. The ID-19 become DSpécial and inherited DS type gearbox, which significantly improves its performance and acceleration. The ID-20 is replaced by DSuper. It keeps the simplified chassis, but in terms of finish, get closer to the DS. It offers carpets rather than rubber mats, painted roof, DS-type top rear lights.
All models has new dash with three large, round dials.

CITROEN D SERIES
From £1,458 (incl. P.T.)
The D series has been with us for over 15 years, yet their profile and specifications are still up-to-the-minute. The highly streamlined four-door saloon bodywork is shared by several models, from the two-litre manual D19 to the 2.2-litre DS21. The latter engine with Weber carburettor develops 115 (gross) h.p., but with the optional fuel injection, power is boosted to 139 h.p. D models have manual gearboxes, but two-pedal semi-automatic transmission is available at extra cost. The hydropneumatic suspension is self-levelling, and all models have front wheel drive.

SM
46,000 F

Unveiled on March 11 at the Geneva Motor Show, the SM falls into the top end of the French market. It is a long-distance, two-door. four-seater coupé of an exceptional comfort. Ultra modern body hides some very advanced technical solutions. The engine, the only V-6 in a French car, is manufactured by experienced in racing, Italian firm Maserati. Four overhead camshafts and three carburettors gives the car top speed of 220 km/h. It is coupled with mechanical 5-speed gearbox.
The SM uses the hydropneumatic suspension of the DS with come modifications to accommodate the wider power unit. It gives the driver the choice of three different riding heights.
The steering provides progressive assist: firm and precise at the high, light and low speed. The steering wheel rotates only two turns from lock to lock and has peculiar, oval shape. It is adjustable for hight and depth. Its return action is forced by a hydraulic device that sets the front wheels in to straight-on position even then the car remains stationary.

CITROEN SM
Estimated price between £4,500 and £5,000 (incl. P.T.) First tangible evidence of the Citroen-Maserati alliance, the advanced SM stole the Geneva Motor Show last March. The highly aerodynamic two-door coachwork bears a family likeness to the DS models, but it is a much faster, more expensive car. Power-unit is a 60-degree V6 with four overhead camshafts, designed and developed by the Italian Maserati factory, and although it is relatively small at 2675 c.c., the SM can reach nearly 140 m.p.h. It has front wheel drive and self-levelling suspension. The nose incorporates six iodine-quartz headlights.

The GS provides the proven hydropneumatic suspension and power-assisted four disc brakes of the DS. The engine is in keeping with the 2 CV tradition being an air cooled boxer but it has four rather than two cylinders and overhead camshafts driven by external toothed belts. It is made of aluminium and, unusually for air-cooled boxer, smooth and quiet. The capacity is 1015 cc giving 55.5 bhp. The interior is as futuristic as one would expect from Citroën and the dash features a "cyclops eye" speedo and boomerang shaped tacho plus a multiplicity of warning lamps. (Right hand drive models had conventional round instruments). The gear-change is floor mounted but the parking brake is a horizontal bar mounted in the middle of the dashboard. Two trim levels are initially available - Confort and Luxe.

CITROEN GS
Estimated price between £950 and £1,080 (incl. P.T.)
Brand-new from the famous French factories, now part of the Fiat empire, is the GS four-door, five-seater saloon. Shown publicly for the first time at the Paris Salon de l'Automobile earlier this month, the car has a long aerodynamic shape, Citroen's traditional front wheel drive and an exciting air-cooled horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine with overhead camshafts to both cylinder banks. The combustion chambers are hemispherical for maximum efficiency, and although the engine is of 1015 c.c. only, its top speed is better than 90 m.p.h. Available next year in the U.K.
