Zmodernizowano przód pojazdu i całkowicie zmieniono tył, usuwając kontrowersyjną szybę o ujemnym pochyleniu. Nadwozie jest dłuższe od poprzednika o 12 centymetrów. We wrześniu pojawiło się też kombi i van.
Moc silnika Dyane 6 zwiększono do 33 KM. We wrześniu zmodernizowano nadwozie, wprowadzając 6 okien bocznych.
Ciekawym projektem jest M-35 wyposażony w silnik Wankla. Nadwozia Coupé na bazie Ami 8 powstają w firmie Heuliez. Planowana jest produkcja 500 sztuk tych samochodów.
Wraz z przejęciem producenta ciężarówek Berliet w lipcu 1967, Citroën rozpoczął reorganizację firmy. Obecnie w jej skład wchodzą: Automobiles Citroën, Berliet, Panhard. Od 1964 roku firma współpracuje z NSU w zakresie konstrukcji silnika systemu Wankla. W ubiegłym roku podpisano umowę z Maserati i Fiatem. Citroëny produkowane są w Iranie, Belgii, Hiszpanii, Portugalii, Argentynie i Chile.
The 2CV celebrates the 20th anniversary of its production.
The ID models gained new names. ID 19 is now called DSpécial and ID 20 - DSuper.
The millionth DS was produced this year. To celebrate this a new version DS 21 IE was launched at the Paris Show. It also marks the fiftieth anniversary of the brand. October 1919 Salon was indeed the first in which André Citroën participated with his Type A which inaugurated in Europe the principle of the construction of cars in large series.
Presented in Geneva the Ami 8 retains the 2CV chassis and 602 cm³ engine but the power output is increased to 35 b.h.p. Front end is changed and controversial rear window is replaced by 'fast-back' style one. The body is 12 cm longer than before. In September two new versions: the estate and the van joined the family.
The power output of the Dyane 6 engine was increased to 33 b.h.p. In September a six window body was introduced.
The most interesting novelty this year however is the M-35 powered by the rotary Wankel engine. Mechanically it is based on the new Ami 8 with Coupé-style body made by Heuliez. Some 500 examples are planned.
With the takeover of the truck manufacturer Berliet in July 1967, Citroën began reorganizing the company. Currently it includes: Automobiles Citroën, Berliet and Panhard. Since 1964, the company has been cooperating with NSU in the construction of the Wankel engine. Last year, an agreement was signed with Maserati and Fiat. Citroëns are produced in Iran, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Chile.
Production in 1969:

On 7 October a millionth DS left the factory. It was the latest development, the DS 21 injection électronique.

Having been launched in October 1967, the Dyane had very hectic start. Initially the car was powered by the old 425 cc 2CV engine and highly criticized for lack of performance. In January 1968 it received optional 602cc unit from the Ami-6. Then, to everyone's surprise, in March, Citroen endowed it with modernised 435 cc engine. This unit wasn't just bored-out, but completely redesigned, giving 26 instead of 21 hp. This created a paradox, where both engines were offering almost the same performance. Soon the larger underwent the same improvements, and found its way under the bonnet of the Ami-6, giving 35 hp, and into the Dyane, with 33 hp. Does that justify the price difference between the 2CV and Dyane? Well, the owners of the Dyane don't have to be afraid of lorries overtaking then on slightest incline.
As before, this model is offered as Luxe and Confort, the latter having better interior trim and distinguishable from the outside by its hubcaps.

For 1969 the model range has been changed again. The ID 19 has 91 instead of 84 hp. In addition there is a new ID 20 with 103 hp, which is also used in all estates. The same engine powers the DS 20. The top-of-the-range DS 21 now develops 115 hp, reaching top speed of 178 km/h. Externally the new ID 20 is a mixture: small hubcaps of the ID and top rear lights of the DS. All ID's has now all-black dash with switches moved closer towards steering wheel and more comfortable seats. Similar changes appears on the DS.

The D range underwent major transformations at the October 1969 Paris Motor Show: birth of a more powerful DS 21 with injection, new dashboard on all models, replacement of the ID 19 and ID 20 by the DSpécial and DSuper. The DSpécial replaces the ID 19 from which it differs in some details. The DSuper takes over from the ID 20 without any significant change.
The new DS 21 injection électronique engine has Bosch electronic fuel injection giving 139 b.h.p. It is the first French production car with such equipment.

Deep restyling of the controversial saloon Ami-6 made its debut at Geneva Motor Show in March. The front resembles the old model, but the bonnet is much flatter and a neatly designed grille replaced the chaotic conglomeration of bars and tubes. The most unliked reverse-tilt rear window is replaced by fashionable hatchback. Shame it is not have a full size rear gate. The suspension is the same as before with an addition of stabilizer bar to combat the excessive inclination when cornering. The dashboard is completely new, driving position is much improved thanks to more inclined steering column and soundproofing in much better. The rear seat is moved back by 15 cm giving more legroom for passengers. Bench front seat in the Comfort, individual reclining seats in the Club trim.
In October the estate and the van were launched. Comparing to the Ami-6 it has the tailgate descending to the level loading floor. Front disc brakes in all versions for 1970.

February 24-27th saw Citroën dominating the XIIth Rally of Morocco. Out of 78 cars that left Rabat for this 4,200 km race crossing deserts and mountains, only seven arrived in Casablanca. Five of them were Citroën DS-21s. Among these were three sedans in "Tourisme" and two coupes in "Prototypes" category. They grabbed the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th places.
It was the first time that Citroën entered a highly modified, shortened prototypes based on the DS.
Two of this DS-21 coupé prototypes completed the Rallye du Maroc in February.
