Also a new version with 602cc engine becomes available on some markets. In April the AZAM was renamed Export. It now has square indicators on the front wings and the Ami 6 blue speedo. It was however discontinued in July.

Since the autumn of 1965, Citroën-France adopted for its 2 CVs (except the basic AZL) the body with six windows already produced for about eight years by the Citroën-Belgium subsidiary. It also has a new grille equipped with three thick horizontal bars instead of five narrow. The bumpers also evolve by receiving new protection beads in black plastic; on the AZLP black beads also cover the overrides. Mechanically, the 1966 models benefit from several improvements regarding the transmission and suspension. The gearbox has new gear ratios improving its performance. The ordinary cardan joints of the first 2 CV are replaced this year by constant velocity joints; on the wheel side, the splines are replaced by teeth. These new transmissions, fitted as standard on the AZAM, are only available as an option on the AZL and AZLP. In rear suspension the friction dampers have been replaced by hydraulic shock absorbers which significantly limit the famous excessive pitching of the first 2 CV. As in the previous year, the 2 CV family consists of three models: the basic AZL which is not entitled to the new quarter windows, the AZLP which benefits from the six windows but keeps a simplified general presentation, finally the AZAM with improved equipment. In addition to these three sedans produced by Citroën, there is the “Mixte” version prepared outside the factory by the company Enac; it differs from the other 2 CVs by its fully liftable loading panel, its folding rear seat and its spare tire located under the bonnet. The 2 CV AZAM (AM meaning "improved") is distinguished externally by its protective tubes added on the bumpers, its wheel trims type Ami-6, its aluminium body flashes and window frames. Internally, the 2 CV AZAM benefits from a less basic equipment comprising padded seats like Ami-6, a steering wheel with two V-shaped spokes, more practical indicator control, etc. In addition, the 2 CV 1966 can optionally receive the Gurtner heater designed for very cold countries, now available on the French market. In this device operating on petrol even when the car engine is stopped, the air taken from outside the vehicle passes through a heat exchanger which brings it to a pre-programmed temperature before directing it into the passenger compartment. A few months later the electrical installation goes to 12 volts.
The AZAM6 with 602 cc Ami-6 engine is only available on certain export markets.

For 1967 six side windows on all models, new door handles and new clip to hold the side window in 'open' position. The Mixte by Enac in AZAM trim.

Production of the dual-engined 4x4 ended in December. Introduced in spring 1958 and produced from 1960 model did not meet expectations. Only 693 copies were sold.

For 1966 the ID 19 saloon has a 1911 cc three-stage engine, but this now comes from the previous DS-19 and develops 81 b.h.p. at 4,750 rpm and larger hubcaps. The estates are powered by the new five bearing engine used in the DS-19. The bigger unit is available as an option.
The new engines are similar to the previous one but has five-bearing crankshafts, hemispherical combustion chambers, light alloy heads, removable wet cylinder liners and improved crankcase ventilation system. Other news are: self levelling headlights, brake pads wear indicator and a speedometer that indicates stopping distance. The additional iodine headlights are standard on the Pallas and the Prestige and optional on other DS models. The Pallas and Prestige also offers different wheel hubcaps, brushed aluminium and stainless steel exterior fittings, triplex windscreen and better trim with leather upholstery as an option.
The Prestige and the Cabriolet (35 and 160 copies in 1966) are built by Chapron.
All models received modified fairing under the front bumper to improve cooling of the engine.
For 1967 a newly developed, mineral oil will be used in hydraulic systems to improve reliability. The ID range adopted the five-bearing, 2-litre engine with compression ratio reduced from 8.75 to 8:1. It also gained a new, 4-speed gearbox, better brakes

Pauli Toivonen i Mikander zwyciężyli RMC w DS 21.

Toivonen and Mikander won the Monte-Carlo Rally disputed from January 14 to 22, and out of eight DS-21s entered by Citroën, six were classified among the first twelve cars. After Monte-Carlo, the DS-21 obtained excellent results in several other events of the season, notably at the Routes du Nord on February 13, at the Snow and Ice Rally on February 20, at the Rally Lyon-Charbonnières-Stuttgart on March 13 , at the Coupe des Alpes held from September 5 to 10. In this 27th Coupe des Alpes, Citroën was the only brand that finished with all its cars, including one ranked at the top of the group, "Touring series" and another that allowed Lucette Pointet and Jackie Fougeray to win the Ladies' Cup.
At the Tour de Corse organized at the beginning of November, Guy Verrier and Bruno Pompanon led their DS-21 at the head of the series passenger cars but they only reached the 7th place in the general classification.
At the Flanders-Hainaut Rally run on November 19 and 20 Bianchi-Delferier crew finished 5th in general classification.
