Many news awaited visitors on the Citroën stand at the Paris Salon in October, in particular on models in the higher category. There are now two DS: a DS-19 and a DS-21 powered by a new engine with 5 bearings crankshaft. The ID-19 inherits the 1911 cc engine known from the DS-19, but slightly detuned. The station wagons can fitted with a DS-19 or DS-21 engine as desired.
At the other end of the range, the 2 CV also offers a certain number of new features for 1966: hydraulic shock absorbers instead of rear friction ones, constant velocity joints replacing simple cardan joints. Externally, the 2 CV of next year is easily recognizable by its quarter glass windows fitted as standard on the AZLP and AZAM. The grille is modified: it has only three horizontal bars and the rafters are moved on the hood. The AZLP's bumpers and front bumpers are trimmed with a black plastic bead.
The Ami-6 does not undergo any significant change, but the interior trim of its doors evolves and the roof of the station wagon is reinforced by a central rib.
158.067 examples of Ami 6 were built this year, that includes 47.574 saloons and 110.493 estates.
This year Citroën produced 497.509 cars.

W modelach 2 CV oś obrotu przednich drzwi przeniesiono na przedni słupek. Modyfikacja to pojawiła się w grudniu ubiegłego roku. Zmieniono przełożenia skrzyni biegów i wprowadzono bezdętkowe ogumienie. We wrześniu zaprezentowano nadwozie z dodatkowymi oknami bocznymi nowym wlotem powietrza oraz zmodyfikowanymi zderzakami.
Rozpoczęła się sprzedaż Ami 6 Break. Zbudowano 158.067 sztuk, w tym 47.574 berline i aż 110.493 kombi.
Modele DS otrzymały nowe silniki o pojemności powiększonej do 1985 cm³, rozwijające moc 90 KM. Całkowitą nowością jest zaprezentowany w Paryżu DS 21 rozwiercony do 2175 cm³, który osiąga 109 KM. Nadal oferowane są wersje 19 M i 21 M z tradycyjną skrzynią biegów i sprzęgłem. Nowy silnik montowany jest też w wersji kombi.
Całkowita produkcja w tym roku wyniosła 497.509 samochodów.

In December 1964 Citroën reversed the opening direction of the front doors of the 2 CV, in order to comply with the new legislation and to guarantee better safety. At the same time, the exterior handles of the front doors also changed for safety reason. The interior opening handle was also changed and a simple plastic strap is fitted to serve as a tie rod. These modifications apply to the whole range of 2 CVs.
September 1965: Third side window for some 2CV models. One piece grille is replaced by 3 horizontal bar grille, chevrons mounted on the bonnet. New bumpers with black nylon in the centre and the same profile on the front overriders. AZAM is fitted with constant velocity drive shafts, optional on all other models.
During 1965, the assembly lines of the small Citroën remained very active, totalling 154,023 sedans and 59,211 vans: not counting the few dozen 2 CV 4x4.

Citroën 2 CV all-terrain does not change mechanically, but it takes advantage of the new front doors with reverse opening; the latter remain traversed in their thickness by the fuel refills adopted on these vehicles in the fall of 1959. Because of its price and its very peculiar dual-engine arrangement, the 2 CV 4 x 4 does no sell well. Its production figures were limited to 138 copies in 1964 and they fell to 35 in 1965.

The latest Belgian 2CV at Brussels Motor Show in January 1965. The six-window arrangement is available in Belgium since 1959. Now they introduced the 2 CV Luxe with 602 cc engine from the Ami-6.

In October the DS 19 models received bigger 1985 cc engine giving 90 b.h.p. The all new 2175 cc 109 b.h.p. power unit is for the DS 21.The adoption of these more powerful engines led to the modification of several elements: new completely homo-kinetic drive-shafts, disc brakes with two sets of separate linings, improved cooling of the engine thanks to new air intakes at the front. The DS-21 has a safety system that automatically adjusts the headlights to the height of the car; it also has a brake pad wear indicator, and its speedometer has the stopping distance as a function of speed. The front fairing of the DS has been redesigned to improve engine cooling. The Pallas - which has only been out for a year - received new wheel covers.
The ID-19 does not benefit from all the improvements of the DS, but it still benefits from the new front fairing, fully constant velocity drive-shafts
The station wagons represent less than 10% of the ID-19 sales, but their production remains surprisingly stable: 6,223 copies in 1964 and 6,222 in 1965. Production of saloons (ID and DS-19 combined) 79,156 manufactured in 1964, increased this year to 83,092. The production figures for the DS-19s prepared by Chapron for Citroën remain modest: 34 Prestige sedans in 1964 and only 23 this year; 170 convertibles in 1964 and 125 this year.

Rallye Neige et Glace (20/21 February) DS of Bianchi, Neyret and Ogier arrive respectively 3rd, 4th and 6th; on the other hand at the Acropolis (May 20/23) where Vanson only obtained a 6th place in the general classification.
Only 16 cars managed to finish this year's Safari Rallye, 5 of which were Citroën. It ran in Kenya from April 15 to 19, and Lucette Pointet won the Ladies' Cup in DS-19 while Neyret, Bianchi and Verrier ranked 4th, 5th and 8th.
