France

During the year 1953, the factories of the quai de Javel produced about 100,000 cars, which puts Citroën in the second place of the French manufacturers, behind Renault which output exceeds 120,000 but well before Peugeot (a little less of 70,000) and Simca (50,000).
Although very dated now, the 11 Normale alone outnumbered the Renault Fregate and the Simca Vedette with sales figures of 35,000, 25,000 and 20,000 respectively.
On the other hand production of the 15 Six fell form 11,752 in 1951 to 8,376 in 1952 and only 2,199 this year.
After many years of absence Citroën returned to motor-sport with great results. 3rd in Monte Carlo Rally and 1st in Sestriere Rally.
Paris Motor Show in October saw an extended range of the Traction Avant with the revival of the long wheelbase, pre-war Familiale.
For the Paris Show this year the company, for the first time since WW2, distributed full-colour brochures rather than leaflets with black-and-white pictures.

Citroën Big Fifteen Saloon is one of the popular front-wheel-drive cars of French origin, assembled in England at Slough, Bucks. Development of a pre-war favourite, this version was re-introduced in October 1952 (it had originally been re-introduced in France in 1947). Fitted with the same engine as the Light Fifteen Saloon - 1911-cc, developing 55.7 bhp at 4250 rpm-the Big Fifteen have the same wheelbase and main body shell of the six-cylinder 2.8-litre model.
Citroën 2CV was first introduced in France in 1949 and became available in the UK-Slough-built version in October 1953. This novel and economical little car have an air-cooled flat-twin four-stroke 375-cc engine, driving the front wheels, all-independent yet interlinked suspension, a 'push and twist' gear-change and a four-speed gearbox with overdrive top. The body is of very light construction, with a fabric roof, four doors and four seats.

Although much bigger than before the boot is still relatively small for a car of this size. It is also not very practical because of the position of the spare wheel. The dashboard is now painted light grey, but it looks very dated. Straight bumpers did not make much difference to the general outdated appearance.
To keep the range more attractive, in October at the Paris Show more body variants were introduced. Also, along with the traditional black, two shades of blue and pearl grey become available. Chrome fuel cap and a second tail light are added. The Légère has lost its chrome badge and for next year will have just black crank hole instead.

Following the steps of its ancestor, the famous La Petite Rosalie in 1933, the 2 CV broke nine international speed records in "Y" class for cars under 350 cc. The car was driven by Jean Vinatier (who undertook immediately after a trial in a 2 CV around Africa) and the engineer Pierre Barbot, responsible for body and mechanics modifications on this 2 CV.
A few weeks before these records, this same 2 CV of P. Barbot was driven in the 25th Bol d'Or race, also at Montlhéry.
