Zaprojektowany w ubiegłym roku prototyp Corvette został zaprezentowany na "Motoramach", które odbyły się po dwuletniej przerwie, oprócz Nowego Jorku odwiedzając Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas i Kansas City. Wystawy odwiedziło łącznie półtora miliona ludzi! Duże zainteresowanie publiczności skłoniło firmę do podjęcia produkcji. Pierwszy raz zdarza się by "pokazowy" samochód trafiał do sprzedaży. Napędzany jest sześciocylindrowym silnikiem Chevroleta o pojemności 235,5 cu. in. "Blue Flame" z aluminiowymi tłokami i stopniem sprężania powiększonym do 8:1, rozwijającym moc 150 KM. Nadwozie, po raz pierwszy na tak dużą skalę, wykonywane jest z tworzyw sztucznych. Rama ma kształt litery X. Tylne zawieszenie zaopatrzono w resory a przednie, niezależne, adaptowano z seryjnego Chevroleta. Seryjne wyposażenie stanowi automatyczna skrzynia biegów "Powerglide", zmywacz przedniej szyby, zegar, zapalniczka i nowość - świetlna sygnalizacja zaciągniętego hamulca ręcznego. Szyku dodają opony z białymi bokami. Mówienie o seryjnej produkcji wydaje się przesadą. Do końca roku w zakładach we Flint w stanie Michigan zmontowano ręcznie 319 egzemplarzy, wszystkie w kolorze "Polo White".

First introduced in January at GM’s Motorama in New York, the Chevrolet Corvette dream car was displayed March 14-22, 1953, at the Chicago Auto Show. It is two-seat roadster with fiberglass body powered by the tri-carburetor, six-cylinder engine that is mated to a Powerglide automatic transmission. Chevrolet promote the Corvette as the first of the ‘dream cars’ to come true.
