21 3-Litre (sports saloon, drophead Coupé) (R6 cyl.,
2,993 cc, 86 b.h.p.; wb: 111.5 in.) - discountinued. 1,316 were
made from 1950-1953 (302 dropheads) The Alvis TC 21 body style is essentially the same as the TA 21, one of the differences is the fitting of chrome plated window surround on the doors. The saloon version is only available and it is made for Alvis by Mulliners in Birmingham. The 2,993 cc engine is upgraded to produce 93 bhp by modifying the cylinder head and fitting twin SU carburettors. Suspension is the same as the TA 21, independent at the front using coil springs with leaf springs at the rear. The 11 in drum brakes using a Lockheed system are also retained. The TC21/100 Grey Lady was launched at Earls Court. It is a further upgrade with wire wheels and engine compression ratio raised from 7:1 to 8:1 giving 100 bhp. The final drive ratio is also raised from 4.09:1 to 3.77:1. Front fog lamps are also a standard fitting and the bonnet gained air scoops. A heater is fitted as standard but the radio is an option. The top speed is about 100 mph. Externally, bonnet gets air scoops and louvred sides, door handles are push button and door hinges are concealed. |
