Wanderer is losing its battle against Daimler-Benz, especially since the introduction of the six-cylinder Mercedes 170. A quick action was need. On November 29, 1930, the Wanderer-Werke signed a contract with the recently opened design office of Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche, according to which this should develop a six and two eight-cylinder engines, in the latter one with a supercharger.
