VOLVO 144S £1,999
Volvo do not change for the sake of change but American regulations have produced an emission control system. For 1973 the 144 series will have aluminium bumpers with rubber inserts. The 2-litre engine has single or twin carburettors or fuel injection, and automatic transmission can be supplied. The new heating-ventilation system has 10 outlets and can be boosted by a three speed fan.
VOLVO 145 ESTATE £2,103
Lighter steering and clutch action, re-designed minor controls and new circular instruments are among the extensive changes for 1973. Grilles, lights and bumpers are revised and doors have tubular reinforcements against side impacts. There are three stages of engine tune; single carburetter, twin carburetter or injection. Seat belt reminder light, dual-circuit servo brakes and galvanised body protection are standard items.
VOLVO 164 E £2,643
Electronic fuel injection, higher compression and different valve timing produce an extra 30 b.h.p. to boost the performance of Volvo's six-cylinder model, taking it from rest to 100 m.p.h. in under half a minute. Noted for their strength and durability, Volvos have excellent seats with head restraints and there are new facias for 1973 with more legible instruments. Body structures are extra-strong ; bumpers are rubber faced.
VOLVO 1800 ES £2,099
Fashionable sports station wagon styling gives a lot of luggage space on this latest Volvo. The lift-up rear window is frameless; hinges, lock, handle and support strut are all attached direct to the glass - and it's heated too. The 2-litre engine gets maximum power from electronic injection. Transmission is four-speed with de Normanville overdrive or three-speed automatic.
