A 'twin-carburettor' Triumph Herald Saloon became available early in the year, the 'single-carburettor' saloon and 'twin-carburettor' coupe versions having been launched in the spring of 1959. This light car features Italian styled bodywork of advanced design, which includes a front-hinged all enveloping bonnet, mounted on a separate double backbone chassis. The four-cylinder, 948-cc, ohv engine develops 34.5 bhp at 4800 rpm (45 bhp at 5800 rpm with twin-carburettors). A convertible version was also added to the range in September (home market) initially for export only.
Triumph TR3A continue with only minor changes. Originally introduced in 1957 for export only, it is now also sold on the UK market. Roadster and hard-top coupe versions are available, and the four-cylinder, 1991-cc, ohv engine which develops 100 bhp at 5000 rpm give the car true sports car performance. The two-door body is classically Triumph with squared-off styling, a wide narrow grille
and faired-in headlamps.

TRIUMPH are making their second appearance in the race with the experimental TRS, which performed very consistently last year until eliminated by cooling fan failures. Significantly, when the cars appeared at the practice day on 9 April the fan blades had been removed from the end of the water pump spindle. Two cars, to be driven by Sanderson-Rothschild and Bolton-Becquart, with Boxall as reserve driver, are already listed among the acceptances. A third works team car, to be driven by Leston and Ballisat, is third on the reserve list and, therefore, stands a very good chance of gaining a starting place to complete a triple entry as last year. The glass fibre body for this year's cars is a new design, but rather surprisingly is not strikingly different from the production TR3s. They are powered by the experimental 1,985 c.c. (90mm bore, 78mm stroke) twin overhead camshaft engine. The best lap achieved on the 9 April practice day was 4min 50.4sec (103.65 m.p.h.) compared with the fastest race lap last year of 4min 45.9sec (105.32 m.p.h.).
