Sunbeam stand at Earls Court

Sunbeam Rapier Series III form, from September 1959 feature a number of changes, including front disc brakes, a close ratio gearbox, larger windscreen, front side grilles with four instead of two narrow horizontal bars, narrower side flashes and a polished walnut facia with crash roll pad. The Rallymaster four-cylinder, 1494-cc, ohv power unit develop 78 bhp at 5400 rpm. Saloon and convertible versions are available, priced at £985 and £1042 respectively.
Sunbeam Alpine Sports Tourer was launched in the summer of 1959. This attractive two-door, two-seater (with occasional rear seats) is powered by an uprated 1½-litre Rapier engine which develop 83.5 bhp at 5300 rpm, and fitted with a close ratio gearbox. The distinctive body styling feature a sloping bonnet, narrow oval grille with horizontal bars, and tail fins. 11.904 Series I cars were made. Externally identical Alpine MkII introduced in the summer of 1960 have 80 bhp 1592cc engine and 100 mph top speed.

Rootes announced a larger engine of 1,592 c.c. for the Sunbeam Alpine, giving an extra 3 b.h.p. and an extension of useful torque. Stiffer crankshaft, new clutch and wider rear springs were includ­ed in the transformation and the disc front brakes were given sheet metal shrouds to counter rapid pad wear.
