Silver Dawn was introduced in July 1949 with the 4 ¼ -litre engine as the smaller export-only model, with the steel saloon body of the 'standard' Bentley. It became readily available on the home market in the autumn 1953, by which time it had acquired the 4 ½ -litre engine and the longer body of the R Type Bentley.
