For 1974 the R6 was revamped with square headlights, new rear lights, a black plastic grille, and new bumpers. The front indicator lights also moved from between the bumper and the headlights to the bumper itself.
Renault 16 TX was introduced at the Paris Motor Show, equipped with a 1647 cc engine (an enlarged version of the TS engine) and a five-speed manual transmission. The TX is distinguishable from other R16s on the exterior by its four rectangular headlights with large turn signal lights underneath. Among the other features available on the TX are Gordini wheels, a rear spoiler, a rear windscreen wiper, a laminated windscreen, automatic seatbelts, power windows, central locking and optional air conditioning.
Renault stopped production of the R12 Gordini in after 5188 had been sold (compared to 11,607 Renault 8 Gordinis). In October the R12 TR appeared. This model slots between the TL and TS, and has automatic transmission as standard.

Introduced last year, the sporting version of the French nationalised company's 1.3-litre front-drive saloon is continued for 1974 without change. In France there are special racing classes for 12TS models, and many promising drivers have cut their competitive teeth on them. The interior is the answer to an enthusiast's prayer with its high-backed front seats, masses of instruments, sports steering wheel and so on. The 12TS also has sports road wheels, and the 60 bhp. (DIN) engine with big double-choke carburettor gives a lively performance. Long-range iodine headlights are fitted.
