Now available with right-hand drive, the first front-engined watercooled Porsche is now being built at the rate of over 100 a day. One recently went round the world in 28 days, doing 26 to 30 m.p.g. The 2-litre Audi 100 engine and clutch are connected via a torque tube to the gearbox and differential mounted at the rear for ideal weight distribution. The rear window lifts.
Porsche CARRERA £12,750
The success of 1976 on the UK market was the Carrera, which represented over 40 per cent of sales. Half the buyers choose the Sportomatic transmission with torque converter and three-speed clutchless gear change. Bumpers and other external parts can be black anodised. You can have Coupé body or Targa with removable top. The 911 continues with 165 b.h.p. engine, better ventilation, new trim.
