PANTHER J.72 SE £5,695
Built at the rate of about one per week in a little works near the old Brooklands Track at Weybridge in Surrey, the Panther J72 SE is modelled on the pre-war SS Jaguar 100. Its specification is more exciting however, for it is powered by a 4.2-litre Jaguar twin overhead camshaft engine, and it has a steel tube chassis. In essence a vintage car with modern accoutrements, the Panther can exceed 125 m.p.h. in spite of its lack of streamlining. Acceleration is colossal, and for fussless high-speed cruising an overdrive is standard equipment. There is also a new V12 model on show.
