Mitsubishi 1962 |
Minica – new model in October |
|
Another show release was the Mitsubishi Minicar, to support the recently announced Colt. This, in effect, is a restyled Mitsubishi 500 using the same basic transverse engine at the back (594 c.c. air-cooled twin with o.h.v.). The Colt, however, has a 359 c.c. (62 x 59mm bore and stroke) two-stroke vertical twin with air cooling. This is in unit with a four-speed, all-synchromesh gearbox mounted at the front and driving through a live axle with half-elliptic suspension at the rear. Front suspension is by a transverse lower leaf spring and upper wishbones. The two-door saloon, which has a wheelbase of 6ft 3in., will accommodate four adults, with adequate headroom but otherwise fairly crowded. It sells ex-Tokyo for the equivalent of £385, compared with £429 for the Colt.
