Introducing the All-New 1978 Mercury Zephyr

Meet the 1978 Mercury Zephyr, one of the most efficiently designed domestic cars ever offered by Lincoln-Mercury. Efficiency was an important keynote in all aspects of the design end construction of a car breezy in style and with innovative features to suit the now generation of owners who prefer a compact car. The result is the 1978 Mercury Zephyr—Energy Engineered for mileage and space.
Zephyr is spacious for a car with a compact 105.5 inch wheelbase. Contributing to its roominess are innovative design ideas such as Zephyr's new thin-line doors ... weight saving seats ... and even suspension geometry that permits an efficient interior arrangement. Zephyr, signaling Lincoln-Mercurys entry in the era of Energy Engineering.
Zephyr must be driven to fully appreciate its quality, and roominess. You'll experience a ride that's due, in part, to Zephyr's advanced suspension system. Zephyr's advanced strut front suspension is a totally new unit that combines with its front stabilizer bar and responsive rack-and-pinion steering. Zephyr's rear suspension is a four-bar link system with coil rear springs mounted away from the shock absorbers outside its underbody rails.
And we think you'll be impressed with Zephyr's design. Zephyr is tough. It passed the same durability tests as our big Lincolns and Mercurys.

Mercury Monarch, with its trim exterior dimensions and room for five passengers, was ride-engineered to meet demands of American drivers on American roads. Monarch is similar in size to some of Europe's fine luxury cars. This year, Monarch's classic styling is enhanced by a new linear grille theme, rectangular headlamps and parking lamps, new full width taillamp appearance and new opera window treatment on 2-door models.

Monarch offers beauty and styling. Its uncluttered exterior and interior reflect a European-like charm. Mercury Monarch was styled to fit today's demand for clean, smart lines.

The Monarch ride is a notable engineering achievement And for 1978, you'll find all Monarch components have been engineered to provide a ride that can best be appreciated by a personal test drive. Take Monarch for an hour or so on your neighborhood roads and in all kinds of traffic. As you drive away, sense how easily you go through the gears of its standard four-speed manual overdrive transmission, and how responsive is its 4.1 litre (250 CID) six-cylinder engine. Check its suspension. Judge Monarch's value as a precision-size car for yourself.

1978 Mercury Marquis. Proud in stance and unmistakable as a full-size family car that combines luxury and comfort. Marquis for 1978 continues its heritage as a fine riding automobile. Mercury Marquis is carefully rideengineered with a harmonious integration of body structure, suspension and powertrain. Sophisticated front and rear suspension systems are complemented by steelbelted radial tires. Deep-coil springs at all four wheels, and metal parts isolated with tough, shock-absorbing rubber help minimize noise, vibration and harshness. The resulting ride is the sum total of all of these engineering
attributes.. This is what we mean by ride-engineered.

Ford Motor Company 75th Anniversary.
Ford Motor Company was in its 35th year when the first Mercury automobile was introduced on November 4, 1938. The 1938 Mercury was the first Ford-produced car that was styled entirely within the company and the first built up from a clay model by Ford stylists. This was the very beginning of the Lincoln-Mercury fine car division. The Lincoln-Mercury Division is proud of its contribution to Ford Motor Company's illustrious history. Just as we are proud of the fine products in this book that are a part of the heritage of Ford Motor Company. Marquis for 1978 continues that heritage.
