No changes to Matra range for 1979. The mid-engined sports Coupé Bagheera is offered in three trims. The standard version has a 1.3-litre Simca 1100 TI engine with double body carburettor developing 84 bhp. The other two are powered by a Simca 1308 GT motor with two carburettors.
Launched in the spring of 1977 the Rancho become Matra's best seller. This all-road, front wheel drive vehicle is based on the Simca 1100 pick-up having elaborate polyester estate body.
This year the company sold 3,370 Bagheeras and 13,268 Ranchos.
