A mid-engined sports coupé in the modern manner, the Lotus Europa has its twin overhead camshaft engine behind the two seats, but ahead of the rear suspension to gain a balanced weight distribution, and fine handling. Available with a five-speed gearbox to fully exploit the performance, the Europa is good for 125 m.p.h. on 1.6 litres. The Europa's bodywork was developed in a wind-tunnel not only for maximum aerodynamic efficiency, but for high-speed stability as well. Light-alloy wheels are standard equipment, and the headlights retain both dip and main beams for night driving.
