The Jaguar's currently includes six sedans of different performance, size, features and price. The oldest model, the former Mark II continues after a recent modification as types 240 and 340. The largest Jaguar is the 420 G, the former Mark 10, an impressive, very fast and comfortable touring car. The highlight of the brand is still the E-Type built since 1961. It is available in three versions: a two-seater roadster available with detachable hardtop, a two-seater coupé and a Coupé 2+2. Most of the production of this attractive sports car is sold to America.
In the autumn Jaguar launched the all-new XJ6 saloon.

It took four years to design and develop the Jaguar XJ6. In all that time of experiment, trial, and rejection, only one thing never altered: the original intention.
That intention, of course, is another name for the brief that was given to the engineers:
To design a saloon car setting new srandards of comfort and luxury, road-holding and ride, steering and braking, performance and safety - all in one car - with a level of outstanding value that Jaguar have traditionally made their own.
Jaguar believe that this tall order has been filled. Some of these requirements can be measured with figures and they are equally confident of the more subjective things - like comfort and safety. Motor engineers are human too, and they don't put mathematics above direct experience.
That is why this catalogue goes to such detail - to offer the nearest thing to direct experience. For it is only by getting into the car, by feeling how comfortable it is, by seeing how safe, how considered it is item by item, that you enter the private world of the Jaguar XJ6. In this catalogue you can almost do just that.
Afford half a morning to go over
the car itself, that would be better still. And then oyur catalogue would not be a substitude for direct experience but a remainder of it - a map of the private world of the Jaguar VJ6.
1 Integral body-chassis construction for maximum rigidity and minimum weight; comprehensively sound- and rust-proofed before being finished to the highest standards. All cars are individually road tested twice before leaving the factory. Final coats of paint applied only after all testing has been completed.
2 Large window area combined with thin windscreen pillars and rear quarter panels provide superb all-round visibility.
3 Generous accommodation for four or five persons.
4 Individual, reclining front seats with combined adjustment for height and reach.
5 Wide rear seat, with shaped squab, accommodates two persons in armchair luxury, or three if the centre armrest (not fitted to the 2-8 litre Standard Model) is folded.
6 Deep pile carpet over thick insulating felt. Roof panel insulated with fibreglass lining.
7 Telescopically adjustable steering wheel which, in conjunction with (4) above, enables all drivers to find, individually, their most comfortable driving position. The steering column is designed to collapse and absorb the forces of a severe impact.
8 Comprehensive instrumentation and switchgear.
9 Zone-toughened windscreen to provide a wide area of visibility in the event of screen damage.
10 Twin two-speed self-parking windscreen wipers. Electrically operated windscreen washers.
11 Wide rear-view mirror with dimmedimage secondary position.
12 Large sunvisors in soft crushable material.
13 Comprehensive high volume and temperature fresh air type heating and demisting equipment with individual supplies to front and rear compartments (front compartment only on 2.8 litre Standard Models). Features include fine adjustment automatic temperature control of incoming air by multiposition selector switch; independent supplies to each side of front compartment and to rear compartment; two-speed booster fans; variable direction windscreen demist and defrost ducts; servo operation of air flaps and water valves.
14 Jaguar-designed 'Posivent' air extractor system ensures frequent changes of air inside the car.
15 Variable-direction face-level fresh air outlets one on each side of instrument panel. Volume control located in centre of outlets.
16 Two engine capacities : 2.8 litre 140 b.h.p. and 4.2 litre 173 b.h.p. (DIN). Both are 6 cylinder twin overhead camshaft units offering high power and torque outputs allied to modest fuel consumption figures and extremely long life. Engine rubbermounted on suspension cross-member which, in turn, is rubber-mounted in body structure. This system greatly reduces noise and vibrations before they can reach the passenger compartment. Bonnet counterbalanced for ease of operation and forward opening to provide maximum accessibility to all components in large engine compartment.
17 Manual transmission, with or without overdrive, or fully automatic transmission, with manual over-ride facility. In both cases the gear selector lever is mounted on the console between the front seats.
18 Fully independent front suspension incorporating 'anti-dive geometry' to provide a truly level ride even under hard braking. This feature also enables a smoother suspension to be used without impairing the stability of the car. Suspension components mounted in a rigid sub-frame which is located in the body by rubber mountings to provide a precise amount of movement which damps out road noise and vibration.
19 Fully independent rear suspension of Jaguar race-proved design. Suspension components mounted in special subframe which is located in the body by rubber mountings. These provide the degree of movement needed to minimise road noise and vibration.
20 Servo-assisted disc braking of all four wheels for smooth progressive retardation with light pedal pressures. High efficiency handbrake operates on rear wheels, and all brakes are self-adjusting to reduce maintenance to a minimum.
21 Rack and pinion steering for preciseness of control. Left- or right-hand drive and power assistance are available. Steering unit mounted on rear face of front suspension beam for maximum protection and rubber mounted by a patented Jaguar design to eliminate the steering wheel 'kick' which often accompanies this type of unit.
22 High efficiency cooling system. Fluid coupling for cooling fan provides high airflow rates at low engine speeds with minimum power absorption and noise at high speed.
23 Alternator for high current output particularly at low engine speeds. Compact large capacity battery. Printed circuitry for central instrument panel. Protection of electrical circuits and equipment by comprehensive fuse system readily accessible from inside the car.
24 Luggage compartment approx. 17cu.ft.; the use of twin petrol tanks enables it to be shaped to make every cubic inch of practical value; fully lined to protect the luggage and provided with an interior light. Compartment lid counterbalanced for ease of operation.
25 Spare wheel located under luggage compartment floor.
26 Comprehensive tool kit, together with wheel-changing equipment, carried in spare wheel compartment.
27 Four headlamp system with flashing control, provides long range for fast driving and wide spread for confined space.
28 Large side and direction-indicator lights.
29 Twin reversing lights.
30 Twin fuel tanks, one in each rear wing, with 23 gallon total capacity; changeover switch and contents gauge located on instrument panel.
31 Twin-exhaust system with four aluminised silencers for long life and low noise level.
32 Fuel fillers recessed into body and fitted with positive closing lockable caps.
