Jacob Osswald Hoffmann tried to buy the license to built the Isetta, but the Iso-boss Rivolta preferred the larger BMW. Eventually Hoffmann decided to develop his own Hoffmann-Kabine. Unfortunately he was too much obsessed by the Isetta. His Kabine turned out to be a close clone (little bit enlarged, sidedoors instead of a front door and two cylinders instead of one). Soon he was sued. Before the court could rule, his clients skipped orders of in total 400 cars. Hoffmann Werke employing 100 people, went bankrupt. It was Hoffmann's fourth bankrupty. At least 143 copies were built.
