Escort RS 1600 is basically an Twin Cam with Ford engine re-engineered by Cosworth. It is based on the old pushrod 'Kent' unit, but have 16-valve twin overhead camshaft head. The assembly began at Halewood but by the end of the year was moved to a newly-converted facility, AVO, at Aveley.
Escort Mexico was launched in December to discount the succes in the London-Mexico World Cup. The chassis is similar to the Twin Cam but have much simplier, less powerfull 'Kent' engine as used on the Cortina and the Capri.
FORD ESCORT 1100 L

Ford of Britain's least-expensive model has a 1098 c.c engine with five-bearing crankshaft, 'cross-flow' cylinder head, and is in unit with a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. The two-door body is smart and there is a large luggage boot as well as Aeroflow ventilation which changes the interior air every 32 seconds. The Escort has almost endless permutations with a 1297 c.c. engine option (as well as a 1558 c.c. twin o.h.c. unit), two and four-door bodies, and Super and GT trim and tune. The Escort engines for 1971 are the uprated New Cortina versions.
FORD ESCORT 1300 XL ESTATE

Like the popular Escort saloons, the useful and commodious estates are available with 1100 or 1300 c.c. engines, and there are de Luxe and Super versions. The Super models have carpeting extended all the way to the load area, extra bright trim strips, wheel embellishers, and rectangular headlights. All Escort Estates have folding rear seats which convert the car into a useful load-carrier or camping vehicle, or alternatively they are comfortable four-seater closed cars with more luggage space than an equivalent saloon. The large lift-up rear door/window makes loading easy.
FORD CAPRI 1600 GT

Most popular of the British Capris, the 1600GT has an identical in-line four-cylinder power-unit to the 1600GT Cortina model. The neat four-seater 'Coupé' bodywork is identical on all Capris, whether British or German, the only external difference being the bonnet 'bulge' of the V6 models-three-litre in Britain, and 2.3 and 2.6-litre on the Continent. The 2+2 bodywork has above-average rear seat leg- and knee-room, and with its 100 m.p.h. performance and relatively low fuel consumption, the 1600GT is the most popular model in the highly successful Capri range.

Super-dooper edition of the fast-selling Capri, has extraspecial seats, leathercloth-covered facia, electrically-heated rear window, deep pile carpets, opening rear quarter lights, fully-carpeted luggage boot and what else. It costs more than the Capri 3000GT, for the 'E' stands for Executive, but the Capri unitary body-structure is powered by an identical 136 b.h.p. (gross) V6 engine (also fitted to the Zodiac and Executive saloons) and has a maximum speed of around 115 m.p.h. Springing of the 3000 Capris is stiffer than the smaller-engined models.

With an overall length of 15ft. 5in., and a width of almost six feet, the Zephyr 4 is a large car by modern standards. It shares the unitary body of the Zephyr 6, Zodiac and Executive Ford models, but is powered by the smallest engine-the 1996 c.c. version of the V4 engine which in modified form powers the Corsair 2000 and 2000E, and the Capri 2000GT. In spite of its modest dimension, the two-litre V4 will propel the six-water Zephyr at 80 m.p.h.-plus although acceleration isn't staggering. Suspension is independent all-round, brakes are servoassisted discs (front and rear).

Ford's top car, based on the Zodiac V6 structure, is well-named, for its interior trim is regal to behold, there is power steering, as well as a sun-roof and automatic transmission as standard. The front seats are fully-reclining, and the polished walnut facia is extended to the passenger's side. Polished walnut is also used on the door capping. Usually chauffeur-driven, the Executive can be had with classy cloth upholstery at no extra charge, the electrically-heated rear window also comes as standard equipment. A manual fourspeed gearbox is optional.

A new Cortina is always news, and this, the third generation of the fast-selling British saloon, makes its debut at the London Motor Show. Ford have not only gone for a completely new body shape, but have adopted a new suspension system both fore and aft. Although the body is no longer than the second-series Cortina, the wheelbase has been increased 3½ inches. Body width is 2.1 inches wider, and the front and rear track have been increased. Incredibly, there are 35 basic versions of the new model -two and four-door saloons, and estates-offered with variations on trim and performance.
FORD NEW CORTINA GXL

Top-of-the-range New Cortina is the GXL with choice of 1.6 or two-litre engines of completely new design with belt-driven overhead camshafts. The basic GXL specification includes sports road wheels, black vinyl-covered roof, reclining seats, electrically-heated rear window, and four halogen headlights. Both the 1.6 and the two-litre models will exceed 100 m.p.h., and there are estate car versions as well as GT models. The New Cortina is the first British car primarily designed to the metric system, and there are many safety features including a novel collapsible steering column.

The Ford GT70 is a limited production sports car designed by Ercole Spada and intended for rallying. It is mid-engined powered by a Capri based V6 engine with a 5-speed ZF transmission. Vehicle weight: 765 kg (1678.07 pounds) length: 3890 mm (152.33 inches) width: 1730 mm (67.76 inches) height: 1120 mm (43.88 inches) Wheelbase: 2330 mm (91.24 inches). Maximum speed: 225.0 km / h (139.10 mph) Transmission: Manual, 4-speed. The GT70 competed in several rallys and races, but Ford focused on the Escort. 3 examples were built.
