Ford Anglia received a facelift in October 1948, and is re-designated Model E494A. The new radiator grille follow the same contour as that of the Eights and Tens of 1937-39, but now have two upright vertically-slatted openings. Introduced at the same time is an Anglia export version with the 1172-cc engine of the Prefect. This car differ in having a “10” radiator badge, the rear number plate mounted on the left and an extra tail lamp. The E494A standard Anglia retain the smaller-bore 933-cc engine. Both are long-stroke (92.5 mm) Fours.
Ford Prefect also have a restyled front end, but more so than the Anglia. The radiator grille of the Prefect, now designated E493A, is not unlike that of the larger Pilot but the headlamps are incorporated in the wings, which are also higher than before. It retaining the old 1172-cc engine.
Ford Pilot V8, Model E71A, is continued with periodical modifications and improvements, rather than annual face-lifts. In March 1949, for example, the rear axle ratio was changed from 4.11 to 3.78:1, and a bonnet safety catch was added.
