France

Sales of luxury cars in France remain subject to severe government restrictions and export efforts are facing strong foreign competition and are becoming formidable. The Delahaye cars are too expensive. In Switzerland the Delahaye 135 MS cabriolet is offered at 33,350 CHF while for example the Jaguar XK 120 roadster price does not exceed CHF 20,900. The Delahaye with its pre-war design costs about 50% more! Most French coachbuliders use outdated manufacturing methods using a wooden frames with metal sheets.
Delahaye and Delage made 511 cars.
Two armoured cars were ordered by the end of last year by leaders of the French Communist Party. Built on the type 180 chassis by Chapron they weight about three tons and costs 4.5 millon francs each.
