DAF 33
Confort: £680 (incl. P.T.)
De Luxe: £699 (incl. P.T.)
Based on the original DAF - Holland's only car - the 33 has the celebrated Variomatic two-pedal infinitely-variable transmission. The simplicity of controls has put many a Dutch lady into the driving seat who would have otherwise regarded motoring as strange as a breakfast without boiled eggs. The 33, least-expensive DAF in the range, is powered by a simple air-cooled, horizontally-opposed twin-cylinder engine of 746 c.c.. mounted under the front bonnet. The all-independent suspension provides a very good ride and owners will talk for hours of the model's reliability.
DAF 55
Saloon: £880 (incl. P.T.)
Coupé: £999 (incl. P.T.)
Estate: £969 (incl. P.T.)
Made by the Van Doorne lorry manufacturer, the well-finished little Dutch car is available in saloon, Coupé and estate car form. Featuring DAF's ingenious Variomatic transmission which provides two-pedal motoring through long-wearing V-belts, the 55 is powered by an 1108 c.c, four-cylinder Renault engine. With this excellent and well-proven engine the shapely Coupé will approach 90 m.p.h. The Coupé comes complete with reclining seats, reverse lights, and electric windscreen washers. The engine is front-mounted, and unlike the DAF 33 and 44, is water-cooled.
