Front discs brakes fitted in 405 from 1958. The model was discontinued this year. Some driven chassis were bodied by Abbott to order only.
Introduced in October 406 have similar front end design as 405, but re-designed notch back styling distinguish it from the earlier cars. Body is alloy panels on steel frame and have much larger glass areas than previous models and better appointed. Engine is now 2216cc with improved torque, but same 105 bhp, and 105 mph top speed. Rear axle is located by Watts linkage. Overdrive and all round discs are standard.
Bristol 406E Saloon is an export-only model with bodywork by Gebr. Beutler of Switzerland. The car feature Bristol's new 2216-cc six-cylinder engine, which develop 105 bhp at 4700 rpm, and servo-assisted disc brakes. Fog lamps are fitted at each end of the wide mesh radiator grille. Wheelbase is 9 ft 6 in and overall length 16 ft.
