BMW zdecydowanie stawia na rozwój sedanów "Neue Klasse". W lutym ruszyła produkcja zaprezentowanego w ubiegłym roku, dwugaźnikowego 1800 TI, w marcu zaprezentowano pomniejszoną wersję silnika 1,8 litra. 1600 jest następcą 1500, który wycofano z oferty w grudniu. Do rodziny dołączył też 1800 TI/SA z dwoma gaźnikami, wyższym stopniem sprężania i pięciobiegową skrzynią przekładniową.
W maju zakończono produkcję 700 Coupé i 700 CS. Powstało 19896 Coupé i 9436 CS i Sport. We wrześniu zostały one zastąpione przez LS Coupé budowany na tym samym podwoziu co limuzyna z rozstawem osi 228 cm. W listopadzie z oferty wycofano też budowany u Baura kabriolet.
Ostatecznie zakończyła się produkcja budowanych od 1951 roku limuzyn.

BMW is extending the "Neue Klasse" range. Production of the 1800 TI with two carburators, which was presented last year started in February. In March a smaller version of the 1.8 litre was introduced. 1600 is intended to replace 1500, which was discontinued in December. The family was also joined by 1800 TI/SA. It is equipped with 5-speed gearbox, two carburattors and have higher compression ratio giving 130 BHP.
The 700 Coupé and 700 CS were discontinued in May. 19.896 ex. of the Coupé and 9.436 CS/Sport were built. They were replaced by the LS Coupé presented in September. It have the same wheel base as the saloon. The last short wheel base 700 Cabrio built by Baur disappeared in November.
The last still standing memebr of built since 1951 large saloons family, the 3200 S was also cased this year.
