Allegro II

AUSTIN ALLEGRO 2 £2,194
More legroom for driver and rear passengers, better ride and quieter running are features of the second series Allegros which also have different grilles to identify them. Stronger seat slides, improved suspension and drive shafts, better ventilation and improved trim are elements in the comprehensive up-dating. There are four sizes of engine to choose from, on new anti-vibration mountings with telescopic dampers.

AUSTIN ALLEGRO 2 ESTATE £2,164
With choice of 1300 or 1500 engines and Super specification, the three-door station wagons share the many improvements introduced on Allegros during the past year. The smaller engine has pushrods, the other an overhead camshaft. Changes in gas pressure in the Hydragas suspension improve ride and handling. Torsion bars to hold the rear panel open are concealed in the roof spoiler. There's rear window wash/wipe too.

AUSTIN MAXI £2,383
All today's fashionable features were in the Maxi long ago; spacious hatchback body with fold-away rear seats, transverse engine, front-wheel drive, five-speed gearbox, all-independent suspension; and it is still one of the roomiest family cars on the market. Top of the range is the 1750 Highline with twin carburettors, larger tyres, sports wheel trim, body lining and brushed nylon upholstery.
